Risk and Reward

…every time we risk our comfort for something greater, we are reaping that much in reward.

It’s 7:10pm on January 2nd, I’ve just finished outlining goals for the start of this year, and felt called to write in the spirit of all the 2022 energy! Initially, I hear a host of bubble-gum titles smacking through my brain - “New Year, New Me!” or “2022: Ready or Not!” (I’ll spare you further examples as they are ever more terrible.) During this time of resolutions, resetting, and reinventing, I can’t help but remember how easy it is to fall back into the comforts of life. Netflix over gym-ing or YouTube surfing over writing that article (ahem, yes both me). After all the lists have been drafted and that initial spark is spent, how do we re-frame our perspective to get back on track with our goals?

On a fundamental level goals are changes we are looking to create somewhere in our lives, whether small or great. Change requires discomfort. Every time we try for something new, we risk the loss of comfort in order to see the changes we want come to fruition. Even the risk of losing the feeling of familiarity is not something we relish. However, the reward we receive from taking these uncomfortable risks for change is beyond count.

Going forward in this new bright and shiny year, if we lose our footing this year with our goals - take a breath, regroup, reset - and remember that every time we risk our comfort for something greater, we are reaping that much in reward. Happy New Year and Many Blessings to Come this Year!
